While I don't agree with everything in this editorial, I must say I agree with most of it! I am a frustrated "Republican". I feel as if the Party went off and abandoned me. They are so focused on crazy far right issues, which don't change a damn thing. The "Birther Issue" is stupid - no other way to put it. They is not ONE shread of evidence to back up the initial claims by some far right conservatives about Obama's place of birth.
On the issue of the National Debt - my conservative friends can argue and scream at me all day long, BUT I promise you there is NOT ONE REAL SOLUTION to the NATIONAL DEBT THAT DOES NOT INVOLVE SOME SORT OF TAX INCREASE from the present day!!!!!! Now, don't call 9-1-1 as you stroke out and say - Steve Douglas has lost his mind, but rather I challenge each of you to reasonably and logically look at our 14 TRILLION DOLLAR debt. We MUST cut waste and cut social programs - ALL social programs. We must invest in our National Infrastructure, which is crumbling before our very eyes, but which is vital to our National Security and Business Interests. We also must consider raising taxes on some corporations and individuals. We have cut too far! When General Electric can make billions and billions in profits and pay ZERO in federal taxes - something is wrong!
I have come to see myself as a moderate Republican, but to those of you on the far right who so often spout off about Ronald Reagan - I challenge you to be a realist - not a revisionist - and look at President Reagan's policy and legacy - You will find he did and advocated exactly what I am saying now! So, I say - Ron - I am with ya man!!!!
